Purpose
To encourage
members of SWMAS to breed fish, and disseminate information
concerning the
spawning and
rearing of fish.
To promote interest
in, and make available, a wider variety of fish.
To improve
membership participation in SWMAS.
Program
Participants will
breed fish, report successes to committee members, and raise at least ten
(10) fish
to at least
sixty (60) days of age. Points will be awarded according to the
difficulty, on a scale of five (5)
to twenty (20)
in five point increments.
At this time,
the award system will be a decorative plaque with brass slips denoting
eight levels of
achievement at
fifty (50) point intervals.
Committee
The B.A.P. Committee will consist of a chairperson, to be appointed by the
Executive Board, and at least two (2)
other members, to be selected from the members who do not hold other
offices in the club (if possible).
The Chairperson shall be responsible for keeping all records up to date,
choosing committee members,
verifying spawns, and calling committee meetings when necessary.
The remaining
committee members shall assume the duties of the Chairperson in his/her
absence,
help to
determine point scores for fish not on the schedule or in dispute, and
provide any help and
assistance
necessary to make this program successful.
Rules
Points are awarded
only once for any species. In case of a hybrid spawn, the breeder
may choose
either species
to determine points.
Egg must be
produced in the breeder’s own tanks, NOT obtained from another breeder.
The breeder
must have at least ten (10) fry not less than sixty (60) days of age from
hatching.
These fry must be
witnessed by a B.A.P. committee member at a meeting.
At that time, the
breeder will turn in a report form.
In case of
small spawns, fry from succeeding spawns may be turned in until at least
ten (10) fry of at
least sixty
(60) days of age have been witnessed. Points will be awarded after the
youngest fry have
been
witnessed. The B.A.P. Chairperson will not be responsible for
keeping records of partial spawns;
this is
strictly the responsibility of the breeder.
To receive the
award at each fifty (50) point level, the breeder must submit an original
article to the
SWAM
publication on one of the species spawned by the breeder. The article
must be at least 200
words in
length, or longer. If the breeder wished, they may ask the B.A.P.
Chairperson to approve an
article on some
other phase of the hobby.
Points may be
transferred from another society if the breeder can provide documented
listings of the
species
spawned. The points will then be tallied according to the SWMAS
listing. The breeder is still
required to write
the required articles by SWMAS to achieve each level in the B.A.P.
Additional Notes
The points allocated
are, of necessity, subjective values. We have attempted to adopt the
most widely
accepted point
scale in use.
If it is not
possible to bring fry to a meeting for witnessing, the breeder may request
a B.A.P. committee
member to
witness them elsewhere. Prior notification of the committee member is
necessary when this
is done. (No
surprises!)
The eight
levels of accomplishment are titled:
Level I |
Beginner |
Level II |
Novice |
Level III |
Intermediate |
Level IV |
Breeder |
Level V |
Accomplished |
Level VI |
Expert |
Level VII |
Master |
Level VIII |
Grand Master |
Articles must be
submitted BEFORE the award will be given.
Participants
may act as a family or as discrete individuals.
Once the choice is
made it will be adhered to.
EXCEPTION:
When younger family
members reach an appropriate age to become junior or adult members they
may choose to
start their own participation.
Species of any
point value may be spawned at any level of participation.
This list of
rules and conditions is not necessarily final. Additions and corrections
may become
necessary as
experience and opinions develop.J
