Purpose
To encourage the cultivation of aquatic plants by a greater number of
hobbyists, and to encourage the
propagation of such plants throughout the aquarium hobby.
Definition
An aquatic plant is one which, in the wild or native state, can be found
in the submerged form as
a
normal occurrence at some time during the course of one complete season.
Awards
A
decorative plaque with brass slips denoting the various levels of
achievement.
Administration
This program may be administered by individual or committee as decided by
the BOD, which with the
primary purpose being to encourage maximum participation in the operation
of this program.
Attainment Levels:
Beginner: 50 points or 10 different species.
All must be from Class A or B.
Horticulturist: 100 points or 20 different
species. Level I must be completed, plus 30 points
minimum from classes C & D. Remaining points may be from any Class.
Senior: 200 points or 30 different species.
Must complete the two previous levels plus
100
points or 10 different species from any Class.
Expert: 300 points or 50
different species, including success in all classes except Class F.
Master: 300 points or 50 different species,
plus at least one success from Class F.
Grand Master: Complete Level I, sexual
reproduction of five (5) distinct species,
and
provide five (5) articles for SWAM.
Requirements
A
written report, dealing with some aspect of aquatic horticulture, which
will be published in SWAM,
plus a report on any sexual reproduction is required for each level
attained. A specimen of each species
reproduced must be passed on through SWMAS auction, personal gift,
or sale. Point credit will be given
when transfer takes place.
For
Classes B, C, and D the necessary reports, auction specimens, and the word
of the horticulturist,
may be considered sufficient verification.
Classes E and F must be verified by the HAP committee or a member
thereof. In the case of Class F,
the plant must be witnessed twice. Once in bloom and once when the plants
are old enough to be
recognized as being young of the parent plant. Cue to the impracticality
of bringing together some large
plants and committee members, a photograph of slide may be used for
verification. Until further notice,
any member of SWMAS may be considered a qualified witness.
Note
In some cases, it may be possible to gain points three times for the same
species; by a vegetative
reproduction, flowering, or sexual reproduction.
Classes:
