Fry Raising Contest
Rules
Any SWMAS
member is eligible to participate in the FRY RAISING, and is referred
to as the participant.
The club member
who provides the fish for the contest shall be known as the breeder.
In order to
promote good, friendly competition and to aid in promoting a
worthwhile contest, it is recommended that at least five (5) people in
addition to the breeder be involved in any contest.
We will attempt to
have one contest due for judging at the annual show. This will
encourage show entries and the winner will receive 2 awards.
Breeders are
encouraged to give a month or more notice of fry available, so members
can prepare for the fry. Larger fry can be used to add more value. It
is best that 5 or 6 fry are placed into each bag, so that those
purchasing them would have a good chance to have both sexes for
breeding purposes later. Fewer fry or pairs can be used if they are
sexable early.
The participant
must obtain the fish at the regularly monthly meeting. Acceptance of
the fish will be recorded at the meeting.
$1 per bag will go
to the club. If more is charged, the remainder goes to the breeder.
The breeder chooses how much is to be charged per bag. This allows
more valuable fish to be put in the program and the breeder will
be compensated for the fish, too.
The breeder
decides how many months before they are brought in for judging. The
participant is notified at the meeting of when the fry are due back
for judging. It is recommended that they not be allowed to grow too
large, so that bringing them in for judging is not a problem for the
member raising the fry.
Each participant
will take these fish home and raise them and feed them as he or she
sees fit.
At the end of the
growing period, each participant will bring in the fish at the monthly
meeting specified and display them in a container having at least two
(2) flat sides, similar to the Monthly Bowl Show. It is recommended
that all the fish be brought in if possible.
The breeder shall
judge the fish with the emphasis on size and general condition.
Normally, the largest fish will win unless it is half-dead or grossly
deformed.
A single first
place award will be given for each contestant.
The winning
participant will be required to write an article for SWAM
describing how the fish were grown (Tank, size, foods, feeding
schedule, etc.).
Upon completion of
the article the winner will be awarded $20.
